It seems that just about everywhere I go, people are blogging about exercise. Well, I'm going to be no exception here. I've put on a lot of weight since having my kids (upwards of 40 pounds), and I've decided that enough is enough! I'm tired of moping about my gut, and REALLY tired of people asking when I'm due. So yesterday, with the encouragement of my hubby (love you, honeybear!), I got out my Yoga Booty Ballet DVD and got to working. I got through the whole basic workout pretty well, and only stumbled over the yoga part, as it was a lot of downward-facing dog and such, and my upper-body strength is nil. I still tried though! I felt tired, but happy for putting in the effort once I was done. So for now, the plan is every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday I'll pop that back in and get my workout on! My immediate goal is to get under 200 lbs, and I'll be posting periodic updates as I hit each 5lb mark between where I am now, and where I want to be. Today my body is seriously protesting the amount of activity it went through yesterday, but I'm seriously determined to see this thing through, so I'll be back at it tomorrow after work, no matter how I feel. It's go time!

I work out a lot, so I hope you don't mind if I give you one little tip.

Lift weights.

You won't see a weight loss right away as you build muscle. But you will lose inches.

Most people don't realize that the average person loses 1/2 lb of muscle once they hit 30 and muscle burns fat. Fat obviously doesn't burn anything. I've heard all kinds of numbers, but suffice it to say you burn more calories sitting still if you have more muscle on you than if you don't.

Believe me. I run about 4 miles a day, but I always do better if I lift weights. I can cut back on my running and eat more if I keep some muscle on my frame. I've learned it's so much easier to keep my weight down if I weight train rather than try to kill myself with cardio. And as women it's really good for our bones.

Wow, what a coincidence! I started exercising on Saturday to work on my stomach. I am only doing a few exercises and hope to do them every morning before I shower.
Downward facing dog is a killer. Good luck!
My stomach was also very angry with me yesterday, but not so much today. Hmm...maybe I didn't do enough.

I lift about 5 days a week, and am planning on getting back to Kendo practice 1-2 days a week after xmas (I've had a busy semester). Squirt's right, though. The more muscle I have, the more gloriously lazy and gluttonous I can be before noticing it's time to cut back on the meat lovers pizzas.

Moderation in all things, said Epicurus. I agree. I try especially hard to moderate my moderation.

I've been looking for about twenty minutes now, and I finally admit defeat. I even went onto your myspace website, but no joy. :(

It's really hard getting the motivation to keep going on a diet, and it's so easy to slip into a "oh well, I've started this bag of Doritos, so I'll finish them" as I know very, very well. :)
