My letter FINALLY came.
A little bit more than 9 weeks, but I'll take it.
Quick recap for people who might be new around here. I was adopted back in 1978 and recently decided I'd try to find my birth parents (see the link "Adoption" in my favorite posts over on the sidebar). Because of the year I was adopted, the records are sealed by the court, and a permission has to be filed with the state government to release any information. So I contacted the agency that I was adopted from, and they sent in the forms. They said it would be 8-9 weeks before I heard anything back. Also they'd get my file out and write down for me any non-identifying information that they could and send that along when they heard back.
Unfortunately for me, none of my birth family has sent in permission to release their information. The letter said that they probably aren't even aware that they can, so I shouldn't take it as a rejection. But now my permission IS on file, so if someone files one in the future, they will be able to contact me.
The rest of the letter had a lot of information about my birth family, at least on my birth mother's side. She was 20 when I was born, not 17 like I always thought, and in college. My birth father was in a band, and had no contact with my birth mother.. it said she didn't even know his name, or if she did, she didn't tell them. So he doesn't know that I exist at all.
My birth mother had a brother when I was born, who was 4 years older than her. So, since I'm 30 now, she would be 50, and he would be 54. He majored in Criminal Justice in college, and she was going to be a legal secretary.
If you're reading this, and any of this rings a bell or two, please feel free to contact me.. my email is in the sidebar also. There was a lot more information in my letter, but I want to keep some of it to myself, just in case. It may be overly cynical, but this is hard enough without having to deal with someone trying to pull one over on me. Thanks :)
8 fellow footsteps:
Good luck to you...I was able to avoid all that because my adoption wasn't finished so I had my birth mother's name on my birth certificate still...
How are you feeling now that you've found out a few things?
So, conceivably, your father could be a famous rock star and you would never know it? Quick! Start Googling images of all the rich ones out there and see if you look like any of them so you can claim your inheritance!
Just trying to make you smile a bit as I know this must have been disappointing to only get a small amount of information. Still - you never know. Your birth mother may someday be the one to come looking for you. You just never know!
My fingers are crossed for you that this is only the beginning and you'll find the information you seek.
I hope this road will lead to more knowledge and understanding; and most of all, peace of mind and heart.
~~~Blessings~~~
Phew! I'm glad you got some information instead of none at all. It's a start, right?
I'm really happy for you! At least you got more info than you had before and we all know that "knowing is half the battle!".
Good luck in your search, Asara. Glad you've discovered a bit of info...I'm sure it has to help knowing at least that much!
