MaNiC mOnDaY - Wish!

When you wish upon a star...

I'm not really sure where this post is going to go. I'm "shooting from the hip" here, as it were. I was driving to work this morning and I looked over at my sister-in-law's house and thinking that I hadn't heard from her in quite a while. Not since New Year's, in fact. This isn't entirely unusual, to be honest. Hubby's family isn't always the sort to call each other once a week to say hi and what's up. So I spared a moment to wonder what she'd been up to, and went on my way. Today I finally got a crack at my google reader (which had 202 posts in it, ACK), and just now I've gotten to my mother-in-law's blog. Apparently my sister-in-law is in a psychiatric hospital, has been for a couple of weeks now, and is fully intending to commit suicide when she is released. I don't have words to describe how I feel about this. Mostly, I think I'm angry. She has three children, one just born before Christmas. She has a roof over her head, a boyfriend who loves her.. I just don't understand why she can't see these things and be grateful for how lucky she is to have them. There is likely more to the story than I know.. there always is. But I wish that before she does something stupid she takes stock of her life and sees the blessings there for what they truly are.

It sounds as if she has one of the rare extreme forms of Post Partum Depression. I hope the hospital will be able to help her.

If not, once she has been discharged, be sure to check on the children regularly.

I wish that everything ends up well for everyone.

That poor girl won't see anything, she is in a deep black whole the reason is probably that she suffers from a post natal depression. A lot of women get this and I can tell you it is just horrible !

Don't be too harsh. It sounds like she might be dealing with post-partum depression, which is an extremely difficult thing to deal with. It can crush a woman and includes suicidal tendencies. The doctors should be able to help her but support and understanding from her family is a good thing.

My sister has dealt with clinical depression for a long time. She has a loving husband, two great kids, a nice home, all those things that are supposed to make us happy, yet she isn't. It can be heartbreaking to know she's struggling and I would do anything to help her, but I can't. Medication can help, but there have been horrendous side effects connected with it.

I hope your sister-in-law gets the help she deserves.

I agree with the PPD argument but I do hope that she gets the help she needs in the hospital. Hang in there and you are in our thoughts. happy Monday.

I was going to mention PPD ~ I hope she feels better soon, and I wish your family had better lines of communication!

I've had PPD and it's awful. That said, I hope they don't let her out of the hospital in this state of mind. And if they do let her out before she has been seriously counseled (and medicated if necessary) then I hope her boyfriend has the sense to keep the kids safe. PPD (especially if it escalates into psychosis) is nothing to mess with.

My sister-in-law's sister committed suicide a few years ago and it was so tragic. She had been suicidal for a long time so it didn't take anyone by surprise but still... I don't think it was related to PPD, but more generalized depression. It doesn't make it any easier on the families no matter what the cause though.

I hope she does too Asara. What a shame. I wish her the very best care she can get and the right medication too. Have a great MM. :)

hope everything works out for the best. sometimes it doesn't seem like it, but I think these things happen for a reason.

Depression, no matter what form it's in, is one of those things that grips a hold of you and you can't see the good in your life no matter how much you might want to.

Hopefully your SIL gets the proper treatment for this and is quickly on the road to recovery not just for herself but for her three children.
