Worries...

Last night I got a call from my mom. She said that my dad was at the hospital because my grandma (my dad's mom, and the only grandparent I have left on my side of the family) had fallen while she was cleaning her apartment. It looked like maybe she had broken her leg and/or her arm, and she was having some odd fluctuations in her heartbeat. They thought that might have been from the medication they gave her, however, because it hadn't been happening when she was brought in.

This morning I got an email from my mom. My grandma's leg isn't broken, but she fractured her arm up near her shoulder. She said they're going to do some tests on her heart just to be on the safe side, and if those come out all right, she'll be going back home today.

I hope her tests come out all right. The last leg of my other grandma's life began with a fall, and her best friend, my Aunt Ethel, is in a nursing home because of one. Both strong, vibrant ladies, brought low by something that seems so simple. My kids trip over their own feet and fall all the time, but they just get back up and keep on their merry way. It really puts life into perspective for me, that a broken bone can have such an effect on someone.

Oh no! I hope the prognosis is good! Mike's mom just had a hip replacement so I know what's ahead. My prayers will be with her.

I just now got around to traveling around the blogville. I am sorry to hear about your grandmother honey. That is terrible. I will wish her a speedy recovery. It sure does effect us when we are old. Your right when I was a kid heck we would fall and slam ourselves all over. Now if I fall its like a giant mountain feel and everything is crushed beyond repair. Wishes for grandman

I hope her prognosis comes out okay. In my job I have to deal a lot with people falling and it's a lot more common then most people ever think it is. And of course the worst part is that as we get older, our bones get more and more brittle and a simple fall ends up being an admission to a convalescent home. From there it just seems like it's an easy downhill slide though thankfully that's not the case for everyone.

I'm glad she didn't break her leg or hip as that would have been so much worse. I think it's the being laid-up part that really seems to do people in.

Okay, I am sounding like the voice of doom so I shall shut up now!

I sincerely hope your grandmother is back to normal with this break. It's just a good reason for all of us to eat our veggies, exercise and get our calcium!!! Reminder to self...
Prayers for her recovery!
