I'm going to cry :(

I just got done with a part of my job I usually don't have a problem with. But today was bad. I'm covering for someone, and one of their weekly responsibilities is to check the mouse traps that are placed around the shipping department. Most of the time they are all empty, but sometimes there are mice in one of them. Today was one of those days. All of the other mice I have found in those traps have been dead. This one wasn't. It was -mostly- dead. Which means alive enough to try to roll over and look at me like "please, can't you help?". I almost broke down in tears right then and there. Dead, I can handle. Put it in a bag, throw it away. Mostly dead... no. I'm too much of a softie. My heart just about broke for that little mouse. And of course around here I get no sympathy.. "eh, they're just pests, like cockroaches! You wouldn't feel bad for killing a cockroach would you?" My response was no, but a cockroach isn't small and furry with little misty eyes that just wanted me to make it better. Starving to death is a horrible way to die, and watching something that small and relatively helpless have to do it.. I just couldn't take it. *snif*

As much as i hate mice, you almost had me crying, too! What did you do with the little guy?

You don't want to know. Trust me.

I'm soooo sorry! I have a hard time even thinking about it! I once came upon a severely injured squirrel in the road and watching it struggle just about killed me, but I knew that I couldn't let the squirrel continue to suffer. So, I did what was necessary.

Awwww. I'm a softie too when it comes to this stuff. I'm always the one who saves the little rodents and sets them free in the yard.

I would feel bad too.

This reminded me about the first place I worked. It was a shop that was next to the freeway with woods near it. We would get some pretty big rats in there. I don't have the same feelings as you about this. Rats and mice are pests.

If someone at work asked me to deal with mice and traps, I would start drooling, wet myself, and run around the room with my hands doing a flappy thing.

I have a phobia of little dead things. I have a phobia of death entirely.

I'm a wuss. You're braver than I. Cheer up.

Dear God...Sara...two of my phobias are right on this page..little dead things..and squirrels. What next? Someone want to write about Women with upperlip hair named Mitch, who happen to be lefthanded and unable to pronounce "Philidelphia" without stuttering?

Awww, i remember one time I had to pick up a little puppy that was hit by a car. Broke my heart how much pain he was in.

Never even made it to the sidewalk in my arms.

Yeah, I must say, I was almost in tears there.

I actually took a mouse from a trap once and nursed him back to health. He was a little field mouse that my parents caught in a trap in our garage. His little foot was messed up, but I made him a little home and nursed him back. My mom never put a trap out there again after I chewed her head off and brought him in the house to live (I guess she figured what's the point if Mikala is just going to bring it in the house to live)! :0)

It breaks my heart to tease little mice with food (which all they're trying to do is survive with shelter and food) only to kill them.
