AAAAAARGH.
I am so ANGRY I could spit. It was shaping up to be a nice day, too. I got out of work early, went out to eat with hubby and the kids, and since it was around rush hour when we got done eating, we decided we'd go to the store a little bit later. Besides which, hubby had told his sister we'd watch her son for a couple of hours while she and her bf ran some errands. No problem. We can go to the store after that.
Jakob came over around 6/6:30, if I remember right. Beth said they just had a couple of places to go. Cool, we'll get to the store early, and we can just hang out the rest of the night. No problem. Around 8:00 I started watching the clock. How long does it take to shop? I can get groceries in under two hours, easy. 9:00, still nothing, and we still have to go to the store. Finally at quarter after 10, hubby decides to call her and see wtf is going on. We have no dial tone on our phone. At this point I'm already angry at Beth for taking advantage of us, and staying out for so long, and now I get to be angry at the phone company too.
Turns out they have no online customer service, so we have to call them. Our PHONE isn't working, and we have to CALL them to tell them about it. How exactly is that supposed to work, seeing as we have no cell phone?
Hubby heads out the door. He comes back a few minutes later and tells Jakob to get his coat and shoes on. Apparently because Beth and her bf couldn't get hold of us on the phone, it rendered their vehicle incapable of turning down our street, as well as their legs from walking them over here and knocking on the door to make sure Jakob was all right. They were at home watching movies, and they live about four houses away, maybe not even that many. Me, I'd be frantically beating down someone's door if they had my kids and I couldn't get through on the phone and THEIR CAR WAS STILL IN THE DRIVEWAY. I guess that's just me.
Hubby also has Beth's cell phone, so he can call our phone company. The best they can do is tell us they'll have someone here "by 6pm on SUNDAY".
We are so switching phone companies as soon as they get this mess fixed, and we're not watching Jakob again for a looooong time, if I have anything to say about it. Grr.

Yeah I'd be really pissed too. More by the sister in law who didn't come get her kid. "Well they're not answering their phone so they must not want us to take him back. Let's go home. They'll bring him back when they're done with him." Right. That's exactly why I hate babysitting.

Don't you hate it when family takes advantage of your kindness? Now i'm nervous about babysitting tomorrow night. :)

yes, I love it (insert sarcastic growl) when the phone company says to call them when you don't have a phone connection...
And yes, I would think the parents would be concerned, but that's just me...
