Woo Hoo!

We got another progression kill under our belt last night. As my GM put it when he posted the screenshot, The Lurker Below has met Death from Above. The gear was slightly disappointing, after having put four weeks or so into learning the fight and finally getting him down. Out of three drops, only one was actually taken, the other 2 got DE'ed. We all got 10 extra DKP this time though, instead of the usual 5 for taking down something new. I think it was probably because one of our tanks got disconnected at the beginning of the attempt, so there were only 24 of us actually fighting him, and we still killed him!

Let me explain what a progression kill is. As you play the game, you start at level 1 and work your way up through quests and things to get to level 70. Once you hit level 70, there are several dungeons (instances) that you can enter with a group, with things in them that take more effort to kill. As you go through them, you collect new gear for your character, which helps them take on bigger and badder enemies. And the enemies do get bigger and badder. You start in Karazhan (Kara), which takes 10 people to run through. There are several bosses in Karazhan, and each takes a different strategy to take down. My guild has defeated each boss there many times. So with the gear we earned in Kara, we move on (progress) to the next level of dungeons, which are Gruul's Lair and Magtheridon's Lair.

These require 25 people to take down, and the fights are a bit more complex. There aren't nearly as many bosses, because the main purpose to them is to teach 25 people how to work together. You have to be aware of where you are and where everyone else is, and what your role is in the fight at all times to be successful here. We have gotten to the point where we can clear both of these in one night.

The next two dungeons are Tempest Keep: The Eye and Coilfang Reservoir: Serpentshrine Cavern. These still take 25 people, but there are more bosses, and the fights are more involved. We have killed two bosses in TK, and just last night killed our first in SSC. So we will continue to work on clearing these two dungeons, and gathering gear to tackle the last set of dungeons currently available to us: Black Temple and Mount Hyjal.

So you see, each new boss we defeat is a notch on our belt as we progress through the series of dungeons. And that's why I call our victory last night a progression kill!
