Flashback Friday

This week is more of a personal flashback for me. Today is the day of our annual "Holiday" Party.. it's a Christmas party, give me a break. Anyway, in the past we've only had to work a half-day, and then we would go over to a banquet room in a local hotel for dinner and dancing. One year, however, the budget for the party must have been smaller than usual, because instead of renting out the banquet room and hiring a DJ, we had dinner catered in to our plant. It may have been an attempt to get better attendance too, because the door They filed us all into the shipping department (because there's more floor space), and had tables set up in the receiving dock. To make it more festive, one of the managers had taken down the covers on the lights there and painted them red and green. The food wasn't too terrible, but the entertainment.. ouch. One thing I should mention before I get into this part of the story is that a large part of our workforce is Hispanic. OK, so can anyone please explain to me WHY on Earth they would hire a magician/juggler whose specialty seems to be puns? 1. We are all MUCH too old for that sort of thing. 2. Most of the people in his audience don't understand that capon is another word for rabbit, so when he showed off his rabbit puppet with a CAPE ON, he shouldn't have been surprised that only one or two people laughed.

Needless to say, we've had our party elsewhere, with a DJ, ever since. But now they give us the whole day off, so we can all be pretty (LOL) for the party :) Not a bad time, and the food is pretty darned good, if I do say so myself!

Our annual "holiday party" is in January when the company can get a better deal on a hall and the catering probably! Actually, I rather like having it in the middle of January as it gives me something to look forward to once Christmas is over and just the long, dark, cold winter lays in front of me.

Speaking of which, I need to find a dress soon before they're all gone! That's the one problem with having it in January - you need to get your dress in December or you can't find anything that's festive enough!

Hope you had a great time at your party!
