Who Let Jerry Seinfeld In Here? (aka MaNiC mOnDaY ~Clue)

What is the deal with advertising these days? I just don't get it. If they're not bashing their competition, they're ripping them off! Like Ovaltine, I haven't heard a commercial for that yet that didn't say how much Hershey's and NesQuik suck compared to Ovaltine. And Cingular, that whole bit with the four guys that represent the other phone companies.. it just makes no sense! The latest one that I've noticed is Burger King, mostly because I drive past one on my way to work. They're advertising their Stacker sandwich (which hubby says is really good, though a heart attack on a bun) as Meaty, Cheesy, and Bacony. Does this sound to anyone else like "Crunchy, Melty, Spicy, Grilled" (the slogan Taco Bell has been using for the past few months)?

I'm not saying I could do any better, but it would be nice to hear a commercial once in a while for a major brand that just said the good things about their own products, without comparing them to the competition. Consumers are not all stupid, that we need to be told that the features of one car are so much better than any other car.. just tell me what's cool about yours, and let someone else tell me what's cool about theirs, and I'll decide FOR MYSELF what I want! And don't tell me I NEED to go buy your product RIGHT NOW!! I don't care if you're selling toilet paper, and I just finished my last roll, when I'm ready to go to the store, I'll go, gosh darn it! I have yet to be at a store and think, "Well, Charmin said they're quilted, not like those other toilet papers, so regardless of price and value, I have to buy Charmin!" I am not so much of a brand snob as all that, thank you! Now granted, there are certain foods that I'll only buy brand-name, like macaroni and cheese (Kraft), or peanut butter (Jif), but that's because I like the way they taste, not because the commercial told me they're better. And yes, I've bought/had other brands of both, so I've compared them myself. So get a CLUE, advertising people! We're human beings, not sheep! :P

So few commercials use humor and those are the ones that make me favor a product.

I make it a point to not buy products that promote themselves by bashing their competition.

Very good points!
Let's talk about it over a bowl of Kraft macaroni & cheese. :)

yes advertisers think we are sheeple - people + sheep

I think the last original idea in the advertising world was used up a long, long, long time ago!

Yeah, what Mo said. Things are so different than they used to be. Great job on clue. Have a great MM. :)

Good one! Over here it's still considered bad form to bash the competition, but no doubt we're right behind you...

I hate the no frills lucky charms called lucky symbols, or froot rings, etc.
