What a pisser.
I just need to spout off a little bit here.. there's a guy I work with who has been with this company for over thirty years. He's kind of crotchety, he works by himself for the most part in the spice room, weighing up seasoning for the hot dogs. What a job, right? Some days he gets help, some days he doesn't. We run on average 80 batches of hot dogs a day, and there are several different seasoning profiles, depending on the type of dog that's needed. Most of the often-used types of seasoning come in bulk bags, 50-80 lbs. each. This guy is pushing 60, and he does this every day, lugging the bags around, scooping different things into bags, sometimes 30-40 pounds on their own. I just walked past his room, and he's still here. I went to talk to his manager about half an hour ago, and he had already gone home. So this guy is in there plugging away at his job, and his manager AND supervisor have already called it a day. I asked him before I left if he needed any help, and apparently nobody else bothered to do so before they left.
I can't believe it. If this is how the people around here reward 30 years of service, I don't think I want to make my career here after all. What a crock.
8 fellow footsteps:
That poor man. I'm not sure I could take 30 years of that either! I hope they at least pay him a decent salary for all of his hard work and effort.
Oh, poor guy...what a crock indeed!
I knew lots of people like this when I worked in Florida-one of my managers didn't even know how to check people in and we worked at the front desk. She'd leave at the busiest times just so she wouldn't have to learn.
Poor guy...but maybe you should stay if it's a good job and you like it...you know, so you can change the way they treat people cause you're so nice!
That's really sad. I'm sure he appreciates your concern though.
In the end it's always about the ownerns and their profit.. 30 yrs or 50 yrs.. it's rare that you as an individual mean anything to them. Sad.. but true.
That's not right!
Wow, I'm sorry to hear about this. It seems like you have been pretty down about the company ever since they restructured a little while back. Change is not always good. You always seemed to love the company and your job before that.
:(
