Trouble near the home front

I got out of work (relatively) early yesterday. I was excited to get home and spend a couple of extra hours with my family. So imagine my consternation to get almost there and find the road completely blocked by a fire truck, with some police cars right behind. There's a second entrance to the community a little farther down the road, but I didn't know how to get there, as the blocks around us are pretty large. However, there's an old folks' home that adjoins our cul-de-sac, so I parked in their lot and walked over to my house. My parents called not too long after I got home, saying they had heard something about a domestic dispute at a house in our community, and asking if we were ok. We're fine, but at least one of the people involved isn't. I checked the news when I got up this morning, and apparently the standoff ended when the person inside the house committed suicide. I don't know which house it was, but they weren't letting anyone inside the whole park until the issue was resolved, which was around 9:30. Hubby tried to move my car at around 8, and he said the police told him to go see a movie, because he wasn't getting past them.

It's kind of weird to have something so horrible happen so close by. We lived in a much worse area for many years before we moved here, and never had anything like this happen, at least that we heard of. Gives me the willies.

OMG! Billy sent me links to this! He said he normally walks the kids past that place, but yesterday was rainy so he stayed inside. Crazy.. just crazy!

Isn't that weird how you kinda expected that kind of activity where you used to live, but not in a "nice" neighborhood? Just shows you that sometimes the nice neighborhoods have the same problems but hide them better (until they blow up out of control).
I think the police comment was silly. I assume Billy just parked your car back where it was and walked back to your place. Little did they know.

Sara - yep, then he moved it after it was all said and done. I would expect that the police officer was probably pretty exasperated with people trying to get in by the time Billy got out there, but that's still no excuse for that kind of flippant remark. Crazy stuff.

That is scary and eerie. I'm happy though that it wasn't your homefront that had this trouble. I worried as I read through the first few lines that it was your house the fire trucks were in front of...

the cul de sac and our street is seperated with 5 feet of grass and a parking curb. I thought about driving over the curb and that lawn to get onto our street, but Carrie's car sits low to the ground. I wouldve felt kinda silly if i bottomed out on the curb and got stuck there =)

Yeah, Bob would have definitely driven over the curb and grass with his car. :)

Glad to hear that things weren't any closer to your home than they were. From a law enforcement perspective, I can tell you that things actually happen in "nice" neighborhoods a lot more times than people might think but you just don't hear about them as much. Domestic violence can occur in the nicest of neighborhoods and I wouldn't feel too creeped out or worried as domestic violence tends to stay in its own home and very rarely involves other neighbors.

After I got married, a next-door neighbor in our apartment complex tried to kill her husband - bloodied him up pretty badly but he refused to press charges. I forgot how many stitches he needed. Since she didn't manage to kill him, she tried to kill herself that next night. I had to go sit with her until the cops came. I was 17!!!
Felt as if I was in the Twilight Zone...Never been around anything like that. I was spooked for quite a while.
I'm just glad you guys are all okay!!!

So sad.

In high school, a guy that rode my school bus killed his whole family and them himself one day after school. Ever wonder what goes through their minds?

Hope that you & hubby had a big hug and told each other that you love one another.
