Weight Loss

My lovely mother-in-law (see my sidebar for a link) posted recently about her weight loss, and her personal goal. I'd like to get my weight down to 170. I'm currently at 215, which isn't bad, really, but I don't feel comfortable with myself as I am. My stomach really stretched a lot with my pregnancies, and I've already got one big flap of mess hanging over. I'm hoping with time that will go away, but for now I've got to deal with it.

I was really motivated a month or so ago, and I was sticking to a Yoga Booty Ballet video pretty well, three days a week. Well, I think part of my motivational problem is that I'm tired of doing the same thing over and over, but it's the only workout I have to do. I'm at the point that I can do all the talking right along with them, including all the little interjections. I would like a second video to alternate with my YBB, I think that would help.

Do you guys have any suggestions? I'm really beginner-level in my working out, so please keep that in mind, thanks!

I'm shooting for 185, which is 30lbs in 2 months.

I kind of harped on this before, but weight training really works. I've struggled with my weight since having kids and nothing helps me as much as keeping some muscle on my frame. I used to run 4 miles a day and that didn't do as much good as lifting 3 times a week. Seriously.

I've recently adopted a more low carb diet and that helps me too. I've had a lot of family issues going on and gained about 15 lbs. I've lost 10 since going low carb. I eat fruits, veggies, cheese, meat, eggs and all that. What I mean by low carb is low sugar, though I do give myself a day off (sometimes 2) on the weekend to make it livable. And it works.

I think one of the biggest mistakes we make as women is to overdo cardio exercise. You need it, but you need to keep muscle on your frame even more. A lb of muscle burns fat while a lb of fat does nothing. Also, maybe don't weigh yourself for a couple of weeks, especially if you decide to lift weights. While you are doing a fat-to-muscle transfer, you won't see much-- if any-- weight loss, and that can be discouraging. I find it much easier to stick with a diet and exercise plan if I only weigh myself occasionally.

The first and only workout video I've ever tried was the new Billy Blanks Bootcamp.

I pass out everytime I use it. So let's just forget I said anything.....

Good luck!
I personally suffer from a lack of motivation. I am all gung-ho when I am naked in front of the mirror, but that dies down when I am clothed.
I really enjoyed walking and lost 10 lbs with it a few summers ago. Unfortunately, it became harder to find places to walk in the winter and so I stopped.
Hope somebody can recommend something that will work for you! :)

I did some step videos a while ago that I liked a lot. But when I moved I gave away the "step" like an idiot and now I don't want to just pretend...and therefore, I sit.

First and foremost: Good luck on your weight-loss plans. I don´t have a video or DVD bacause I´m as easily bored as you. I use a book (Baby-Yoga) which includes Luis to my exercise - great fun for both of us. When I have some mommy-time I go running or do crunches on an exercise ball. If you need some small tips for food or little helpful things please let me know. By the way: My work-out level was "not existing" when I started =)

i never exercise, which is awful, I know, but true! i think I would only if it were something really fun like belly dancing or one of those strip tease dancing classes.

Dance dance revolution on PS2!!! it's all types of fun and gets you sweating. If you don't have a PS2 it is a lot to invest though.
