MaNiC mOnDaY #3

The theme for this week is Spike. I have to admit I had quite a time thinking of something to post about this week. Being the Warcraft nerd that I am, the first thing that popped into my head is the Mithril Shield Spike, which is something that blacksmiths can make and add to a character's shield. Shield Spikes actually can be made from several different metals, but what they are used for is to deal damage to an enemy when blocking with a shield.

I was thinking though, that's a pretty shoddy post, can't I come up with anything better? Then it occurred to me that Spike is also a name, and several things came to mind. I had a fish named Spike for a while when I was younger. He was a big sort of goldfish, and actually the bigger of the 2 I had at the time. The other fish I named Bubba. They looked like hardcore fish, so I gave them hardcore names.

This is another Spike. I was a bit younger when I encountered this one. Most girls like Barbie dolls, right? Well, not me. I had a couple, but I never played with them. My thing was My Little Ponies, and I had quite a few! Spike came with the castle playset, which was one of my favorite things to play with. It had 2 floors, came with a special pony, who had golden horseshoes you could put on her feet, and a princess hat. Spike was the castle dragon, and the castle had a little basket for him to ride in so that he could go up or downstairs in the castle. Some pretty fond memories there. I think my parents still have all of these toys in their basement somewhere too.

This is the last Spike that I could think of to share with you all this week. He's a vampire from the show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", and is played by James Marsters. He's a British vampire, and was one of my favorite characters on the show. I didn't really watch the show all that much, but if I was flipping channels and I saw an episode, I'd usually watch it. Spike was usually good for a few laughs, I don't remember him as being much of a serious sort of vampire. I found by looking at Wikipedia that his nickname is Spike "of a habit of torturing people with railroad spikes". Nice, huh?
Do you know of any good Spikes? Why not try a Manic Monday of your own? :)

Awesome spikes!
Yes, when Spike became a vampire, in England, he would go after some of his former tormentors and "spike" them with railroad spikes.
Another of his nicknames was William The Bloody.
Very fun post.
And thank you for participating in
Manic Monday
cheers,
Manic Mo

Morgen, you should explain why he was called William the Bloody. It was 'cause he wrote poetry and it was bloody awful.

Wonderful. Little Ponies were after I was older, I think, so I never had any... but I had real horses so that to me was a bonus ;o)

A goldfish named Spike? Did it get that name because you really wanted a dog? ;)
