Calling All Cooks!!

I'm hosting Christmas Eve with my hubby's side of the family this year (Skittles, Mike, etc.), and I need some awesome recipes to make for them! I want to make punch and other nibbly snacks, and I need your help thinking of tasty treats to serve. Let's see that kitchen magic!

Taco Dips are always a hit. If you have a good recipe. Also punch with serburt and gingerale.

I usually just take store bought cookies and put them in the microwave until warm.

Serve with cider prepared the same way and my card playing buddies love it.

They never even guess it isn't homemade!

We aren't picky. Anything will do. I'll be having fun seeing the kids :)

If you like coffee, try putting a little clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and a pinch of black pepper in it, Use unground cloves, cinnamon and pepper if you grind your own coffee or ground spices if you don't grind your coffee. It'll have a nice holiday flavor.

Just a thought, and a way to show appreciation for your regular visits to my blog.

I love coffee that way during the holidays.

Merry Christmas

My absolute favourite is 7 layer dip:

In a glass dish - or whatever square, round, oval or rectangular dish you like, spread 1 large can of refried beans in bottom.

Top with a layer of each of the following:

Sour Cream
Guacamole
Grated cheddar
Diced Tomato
Diced Green Onion
Sliced Black Olives

Serve with regular or "A Hint of Lime" Taco chips.

It's so easy, why don't I just make it and bring it along :)

Papa Chanoli's coffee sounds really good - think I'll try that!

That's Sara's thing. I want something that -I- can make. Last year I got really sad that everyone was like.. ooh, I want Sara's this, and Barb's that.. and I tried really hard to make and have things of my own, and they mostly just got passed over. I know you guys have been having Christmas since long before I showed up, but it still kind of hurt my feelings.

Something really easy but good is Brie in a puff pastry. Buy a baby brie and cut off the outer crust. Get a good jelly (nob hill makes this mango/pineapple/peach that is really good. Or maybe a cranberry) and put it on top. Wrap in a store bought puff pastry dough (in the freezer section) and cook according to the pastry directions. Really good, really easy.

The cheese usually bleeds out of the dough, so I use a large oven safe dish to cook it in.

It's always popular.

Also hot artichoke dip is an easy dish that's usually a favorite.

1-2 (depending on how much you like artichokes) 8oz can artichoke hearts
1 8 oz pkg cream cheese
1 1/2 cup pre-shredded parmesan cz
1 cup mayo

combine and cook at 350 until browned on top. (You might be able to cook at 400-- I'd have to look at the recipe. The idea is just to warm it through anyway and brown the top.)

Another popular dip in my house.

Knorr soup has a good spinach dip recipe on the back of the package too.

Asara

It is hard being the newer person in the group. I used to feel that way.

Now I feel kind of bad for my sister-in-law. I've been married to my husband for 8 years while she's been away in the service. Now my stuff is what they're used to (we have Thanksgiving at my house) and she's the odd person out some of the time. I know it hurts her feelings too.

I think once you get some good recipes down and make them your own they'll become family favorites too. I find the internet to be a great resource.

epicurious.com has some good recipes and foodtv.com has a huge data base of recipes from all their shows.

I like to watch Paula Deen, her southern cooking just looks so good, and she does a lot of appetizers that are pretty simple.

Good luck.

Don't feel sad and left-out - you will find something.

Here's a holiday favorite I posted a few days ago. Godd for munching while folks are sitting around catching up with each other, or you could bundle small servings in some Christmas print fabric for them to take away & enjoy later.
